Non-Events
An event is a thing that happens or takes place, one of importance, a fact of something occurring, an item in a programme.
A Non-Event is an event in which the viewer/audience participates in and concludes the artwork/s without their knowledge of the event/artworks being done.
Rules and Restrictions
To publicise or promote a Non-Event would therefore make it an event.
To organise a time or place of a Non-Events would therefore make it an event.
To discuss a Non-Event before the event would therefore make it and event.
To Acknowledge a Non-Event would therefore make it an event.
A Non-Event need not have ownership.
A Non-Event may be a large or small social interaction.
Documentation of Non-Events exist only within the viewers/audiences’ memory and imagination.
Communication and discussion of this participation allows the work to continue to exist.
Credit for Non-Events may be given incorrectly as authorship is not declared.
Essentially a Non-Event exists as a rumour.
Non-Events did take place and are still happening.
Nothing comes from nothing.
